Recently, I got a wonderful surprise in my inbox: an invitation to Sine Morse’s opening at Suzette Creperie (through November) in Portland’s charming SE Belmont neighborhood. Having encountered her and her bright and delightful work a few times in the past couple years, I was jazzed!
So, over the hills and into the wilds of SE Portland to check it out. And it was well worth it! Beyond how sweet a person she is (so far, a remarkably common trait among the local artists whom I’ve met), the show looked good: she’s got the whole space and has a wide variety of subjects and prices on the walls.
Her work consists of colorful cut paper shadow boxes, often with painted elements and occasional bead accents. And they all share a bright, optimistic, often fanciful, sensibility. Beautifully decorative and imaginative and often very intricate. If you’re followers of Sticky Stuff Stew blog, you may remember the image I put up from my first encounter with this fellow emerging local artist.
Given her comments at my opening last night, I suspect an art trade in the not-too distant future as I would love to see one of her works on our walls!
